Cyclic or continuous salt fog testing

The objective of continuous salt spray tests is to compare the resistance to the action of salt spray of protections or treatments on test specimens. Therefore, the test results should not be taken as a direct indication of the corrosion resistance of the metallic materials under test.

Cyclic salt spray tests are better suited for the evaluation of corrosion resistance because they have dry heat phases and damp heat phases in their cycle more representative of natural conditions. Cyclic salt spray tests are very commonly used by automotive manufacturers.
